Purposes: Provide the final effort to assist students, their families, and schools in eliminating truancy and avoiding petition to the court.
Rationale: Provide consistency with a community served by several school districts and provide direct access to community family support resources. provide community members and parents with an opportunity to participate in resolving truancy problems.
Action: The truancy board reviews case history and recommends community resources to support the student, parents, and school in attaining school attendance (examples include family support unit, family reconciliation, alcohol and drug assessment, etc.)
Time: The board membership will be a term of at least one year. The board members will be trained about community resources. The board meetings will be three hours in length the first and third Thursday of each month.
Documentation: The truancy board will keep a written record with a copy of recommendations provided to the student and parent, school, and Juvenile Court.
Specialized Services Division: The Specialized Services Division provides a continuum of services to youth from the time they enter the Benton/Franklin Counties Juvenile Justice Center, through diagnostic and court proceedings, to incarceration and treatment. Most services are provided on the premises of the Juvenile Center with court staff, private counselors, and psychologist. The services include Diagnostic Sexual Offender Treatment, Community Commitment Program, Intake Unit, Project Youth Recover, and Parole.
